How do I install the Precise trial version?

After downloading and extracting the trial package from the website, run 'Setup.exe'.

Can I install Precise in the same location as setup.exe?

It is recommended to install Precise software on dedicate folder.

Is the Precise trial useful in both QA and production environments?

Yes, Precise is both a QA and production-level solution. Most customers will use the solution in both environments, tuning performance under load in QA, and then using the solution in production operations.

Can I receive a DVD containing the trial software?

Yes, we can ship you a DVD. Simply contact sales@precise.com for assistance.

When installing the Precise Trial Version, the SQL Server installation failed. How do I troubleshoot this?

Sometimes the SQL Server DB holds some files that require a restart to release these files handles. In the logs/setup.log file you will see that a restart is required. Please do the following:

  1. Uninstall Precise by running the setup.exe again and remove the installation.
  2. Delete the .mdf and .ldf files under C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.PRECISEV9TRIAL\MSSQL\Data.
  3. Using task manager, make sure no pssq_* processes are running.
  4. Make sure all the files under the destination folder are deleted.
  5. Restart the server.

What are the firewall requirements for Install Shield?

For Install Shield you have to allow psin_cli.exe (Precise executable) to run.

After the installation is complete, how do I begin viewing my Precise performance data?

To start viewing Precise data, you need to launch the Precise GUI. If you checked the box during the installation process to automatically launch the GUI, you will be brought to the SQL Server console automatically once the installation is complete.

The 2nd option is to go to the Start Menu -> Programs -> Precise, and choose to launch one of the following:

  1. Precise for SQL SERVER Console
  2. Precise Admin Console
  3. Precise StartPoint

The 3rd option is to type the URL http://localhost:20790 in a browser.
The username/password of the Precise GUI is admin/admin.

How long does the installation take?

Download times for the software vary based on Internet speeds.
Once you download the software and click the Setup.exe file, the installation will take approximately 15 minutes.

When does the trial license expire?

The trial license expires 30 days from the date you install the product.

Can I extend the license expiration date?

Please contact us at sales@precise.com.

After the trial period is over, what happens to the data?

The performance data that was collected during the trial period will remain in Precise repository. You will no longer be able to review the data once the trial is over, unless you purchase the product. In addition, data will continue to collect until you stop the collector agents. If you choose not to purchase the software at the end of the trial period, you will need to uninstall the product to stop data collection. There is an uninstall program located in the file directory.

How does Precise collect performance information?

Precise is an agent-based technology that allows you to collect granular performance metrics across many different technologies.

How much storage do I need for Precise?

The Precise software download is approximately 2.5 GB. Once data starts to collect, you should expect that over a 30-day trial period, you will need approximately 10 to 30 GB of disk space, depending on the volume of traffic going through your application or database and the Precise data retention settings. You can save every data point, or aggregate daily, monthly, etc. You can change these settings in the Admin Console.

Can I convert my trial to a purchased version?

Yes. Contact us at sales@precise.com and we will help with next steps.
